What should be the Dress Code in a Wine Dinner?

What are your two favorite things to wear?

As the President of a Wine Club, it always becomes incumbent on me to decide upon an appropriate dress code for any upcoming wine dinner of the club. As simple as it sounds, this has often been a topic of intense WhatsApp discussions in the group.

The traditionalists (which doesn’t necessarily mean old school) normally vote for the formal attire – maybe a two or three piece suit with a tie (or a shirt and tie if it’s summers). Well, this is certainly in accordance with demands of a formal wine dinner which should command a certain aura.

Then there are others who feel that the days of Black Tie Dinners are long gone and as a progressive club we should allow more of informal dressing, if not casual.

Having deliberated extensively on this issue, as the President I took a decision to stipulate the dress code for our Club Wine Dinners as Formals or Smart Casuals. Members can choose any one of these.

As for me personally, I always prefer to wear formals in any wine event, especially if I’m also conducting the proceedings.

So the two of my favourite things to wear in any wine event are a Light Coloured Shirt with a Dark Trouser.

What do you prefer to wear in a wine event? Do share your views in the comments.

Cheers !!

My wine journey started in 2013 and I soon earned my WSET certifications in quick succession. At same time I started with writing on wines on my blog page and also got opportunities to write for renowned wine magazines in India. I’ve also written a couple of research papers on Indian wine industry. Presently I’m also tenanting the position of the President Delhi Wine Club. I’m on panel of Judges in International Wine Challenge (London) and Michelangelo Wine and Spirits Awards (South Africa). I believe in the tagline : Wine Connects.
