Luigi Frascino, from Campania, founder of the Frascino Group, arrived in Tuscany in 2016, where he went on to establish the Boschetto Campacci – a winemaking company.
What started humbly by renovating an abandoned farm, now has vineyards and a wine cellar. The premises also has a Wine Resort – Villa Campacci, located in the center of the Estate, and a restaurant, the Da Filetto in the small village of San Gusmè.
Vinitaly India Road Show
You must be wondering as to why I’m talking about this wine house today, so let me elaborate.
My rendezvous with this winery happened during the recently held Vinitaly India Road Show event at New Delhi, where they had showcased their wines alongwith many other Italian wine producers at Hotel Taj Vivanta.
Stall No 10
I came across Dott. Jacopo Fabciulli, the Wine Ambassador of Boschetto Campacci winery at Stall 10 in the main hall of the Vinitaly India event.
Jacopo made me taste all of his wines including a sweet wine made from Sangiovese grape which I liked a lot.
But what captured my attention and curiosity was a bottle of wine with an elegant label which read as : Vittoria Franciacorta Brut.
My instant question to Jacopo was – “how come you’re displaying this wine here, since Franciacorta is made from Northern Italy whereas your winery Boschetta Campacci is located in Tuscany in Central Italy” ?
To which he elaborated that although their winery is located at Tuscany, however they also have a set up in Northern Italy where they make Franciacorta wine under their label. That made sense, since in Italy any wine with a DOCG mentioned on its label, should be made only in the designated area, and not outside it.
Now, before I talk about the Vittoria Franciacorta Brut which I sampled at his Stall, let me say a bit about the wine region where it comes from – Franciacorta DOCG.
Franciacorta DOCG Wine Region
Franciacorta DOCG is a sparkling wine region in Lombardy, Italy, known for its traditional method sparkling wines, produced in the Franciacorta area between Lake Iseo and the city of Brescia. It was granted DOCG status in 1995.
A layman can loosely (and incorrectly) call the Franciacorta sparkling wines produced in this region as an Italian Champagne. However personally I do not endorse this, since champagne only comes from the region of Champagne.
Franciacorta Vittoria DOCG 2018
Coming on the sparkling wine – the Vittoria Franciacorta Brut DOCG 2018, the first thing I noticed once it was served in the glass was its beautiful perlage (perlage is the name for the countless minute bubbles that are seen rising upwards from the bottom of a glass of sparkling wine – it’s often used by experts to assess the quality of the bubbly).

I was also impressed by its dry, crisp and elegant taste, with notes of green apples and citrus. Having undergone the second fermentation and aging on lees, it also displayed a toasty and yeasty character thereby giving a rich mouth feel, complimented with a balanced acidity.
Overall, I found it to be a wonderful sparkling wine, and one which would be liked by the palates of Indian consumers.
