My Passion for Wines

What’s the coolest thing you’ve ever found (and kept)?

Find your passion and you’ll never work a day in your life

Mark Twain

Although I fully subscribe to the above quote, but as I enter into my mid fifties now, I also realise that how difficult it is for us to find our true passion in life.

While growing up, my passions shifted from philately to numismatics, and later from cricket to basketball, and from reading to writing. This made me think about how our passions and interests keep on changing with time.

This was till ten years back when I got introduced to the world of wines. What started as a keen interest in wines and wine culture soon turned into a growing and a consuming passion, which still continues.

So yes, the coolest thing I’ve ever found (and kept) is a passion for wines

It all started when I had my first glass of Chardonnay at a French bistro where we had gone for our anniversary dinner. Read more about it here :

First Wine Tasting

My very first wine tasting (where I even got impressed by my own picture lol)

Having started my journey, I immersed myself in the wine world by reading everything I could lay my hands on and also did few certificates courses in wines. Soon I got my first opportunity to attend a wine tasting event. I distinctly remember that evening at a restaurant called as the Spice Market at Saket Delhi. And as I brought the wine glass closer to my nose, I experienced my first pleasure of how wonderful a wine aroma can be.

This was to follow by many firsts in my wine journey, notable amongst these being:

My first visit to a winery and a vineyard

Visit to Grover Zampa Vineyards

My first write up published in a leading wine magazine

The first wine event organised by me

First Wineglitz Dinner at Delhi

First wine picnic done by our family

Family wine picnic at Andaman Islands

My first wine research article which got published

I’m giving a presentation on my research article on Indian Wine Industry

My first participation in a panel discussion on wines

Speaking in a panel discussion during Vinexpo

So that’s my wine journey till now in a nutshell. I hope you liked reading it as much as I liked writing this. I would also love to hear about your own passions in life – do share in comments. Cheers !!

My wine journey started in 2013 and I soon earned my WSET certifications in quick succession. At same time I started with writing on wines on my blog page and also got opportunities to write for renowned wine magazines in India. I’ve also written a couple of research papers on Indian wine industry. Presently I’m also tenanting the position of the President Delhi Wine Club. I’m on panel of Judges in International Wine Challenge (London) and Michelangelo Wine and Spirits Awards (South Africa). I believe in the tagline : Wine Connects.
